School Programs

Miss Helen has been a music teacher at Sutterville Preschool for 25 years while also teaching preschool and elementary music education at other local schools. She is currently expanding her preschool music classes to include after-school programs. Her goal as a teacher is to instill a love and appreciation for music and to help the children build their confidence in their own musicianship, giving them a foundation in music education that will help lead to a lifelong love for music—something that is becoming increasingly important as music education resources continue being cut from school budgets.

Her weekly after-school music classes are 45 minutes long and consist of active participation in songs, dance, playing rhythm instruments, and learning sign language. Singing skills will be strengthened through listening, echoing, and repetition. In class we work on developing rhythm skills of keeping a steady beat by playing rhyth instruments and through movement.

The children will be exposed to many different styles of music including Classical, Folk, African, Asian, and Rock. They will strengthen their listening skills and learn to identify different timbres of instruments as well as differentiate high notes from low notes and develop pitch awareness. The parents will receive a monthly letter, Notes from Miss Helen, listing songs and music concepts and skills the children will be learning in class.

COST: A $40/month payment from each student is due at the first of each month. If you are interested in having this program be a part of your preschool, please contact Miss Helen for available days and times.
